Wach CNN anchors butcher neutrino SOL story

Video reproduced under Fair Use for purposes of commentary and criticism.

CNN is not the place one thinks of first for science news, but today it was unavoidable, as was, perhaps, the unfortunate presentation of the OPERA neutrino speed results by the hapless "American Morning" anchors.

"You can tell we're a couple of journalism majors trying to do this."

Yes we can, folks, yes we can.

For those seeking a more nuanced understanding, go read the paper.

Jay Rosen on the View from Nowhere, redux

NYU Journalism professor and media critic Jay Rosen posted a thought-provoking Q&A this week on objectivity in journalism: The View from Nowhere: Questions and Answers. It references Olbermann (as the peg, if you will...) but is really a philosophical exploration of what "objectivity" means in the journalism ecosystem. I'm not going to summarize, because if you're the kind of reader who's interested, you'll want to go read the whole thing.

Full disclosure: I know Jay from the Media Ecology program at NYU, so of course, I'm biased. How's that for a recursive disclaimer?
