At a ceremony in Quonset Point this afternoon, Gov. Don Carcieri and Portsmouth officials celebrated the arrival of one of the sections of the town's new wind turbine generator, before it was loaded onto a barge for its trip across the Bay next Monday.

"The project is a testimony to the people of Portsmouth and their commitment to helping our State meet its clean energy goals while providing revenue to the town," Portsmouth Town Council President Pete McIntyre said, according to a transcript made available by the Portsmouth Economic Development Committee (PEDC). "We look forward to the culmination of our partnership with the manufacturer, AAER of Canada, when our Wind Turbine Generator starts spinning atop 'windmill hill' in Portsmouth a few weeks from now."

Update: The ProJo story covers the Quonset/statewide angle.
