You've probably read Providence Journal reporter Gina Macris's coverage of Portsmouth, but you may not know she's also a knitting expert, with her third how-to book, The Well-Knit Home just out in hardcover. Want to get a head start on holiday shopping for crafty folks on your list? Macris is having a book signing this Saturday, Nov. 17, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Barrington Books in the Barrington Shopping Center, 184 County Road in Barrington (Google Map).

Don't know where Macris finds the time. This is her second book this year, this one focusing on fun accent pieces for the home, using a range of interesting yarns, and featuring big photos and the kind of crisp step-by-step instructions you learn to write by hacking through convoluted Town Council discussions. Just like the last signing, she will have samples from the book on display, with one in process, and she welcomes questions. Karen, Jack, and I went to the last signing, and even Jack had a good time discovering how these things are made.
