Portsmouth Town Admin candidates to be interviewed this week by panels, Council

According to agendas distributed by the Portsmouth Town Clerk this afternoon, it appears that the candidates for Town Administrator will be going through final interviews this Friday and Saturday at Town Hall. All the meetings are listed as executive sessions under "RIGL 42-46-5 (a) (1)" for "Personnel, Interviews."

The "civilian panel" selected by the Town Council (with each Councilor choosing one representative) will meet at 8am on Friday in the Portsmouth Room, with the professional panel from the search firm downstairs in the Council executive chamber.

Town Council will be interviewing the candidates in executive session in the Portsmouth Room at 8:30 on Saturday, Jan. 7.

hmmmm.....I see you noted the relevant Executive Session RI general law.....at least, the law that was provided to you..... I'm wondering if these interviews really do fall under the law that is cited?(I'm just a tad bit suspect of a few of the members of the "civilian panel.") The new Town Administrator needs (whoever he/she ends up being) to be able to promote the will of all of Portsmouth's residents.......it would serve us well if these meetings were held in an open session (no public input, just the ability for the public to hear the proceedings). Forgive my skepticism.....but.....an open meeting will keep all the interviewers "Honest", (I think).

Hi, spappas...
Now that Patch was able to confirm the names of the civilian panel, I think I can understand your concerns there.

On the other hand, since this is a job interview, the privacy of the applicants needs to be a consideration, and we have to trust that our elected representatives (and their seconds on the civilian panel) will do the right thing for all of Portsmouth.

Best Regards.

I agree with you you. (When I was involved) I always felt applicants needed privacy as they are probably employed elsewhere.

... Just hoping that the two people I know to be fair, and the one who seems independent enough, can keep the others in check.....
