RI is Ready announces ed funding advocacy plan

Rhode Island is Ready, the grassroots campaign supporting an education funding formula for the state, sent an e-mail to supporters this morning outlining their planned advocacy efforts in the closing days of the legislative session.

Dear Ready supporter:

Thanks to your support, the Ready campaign is growing every week. Our objective of achieving a fair funding formula for Rhode Island this legislative session is gaining momentum. We now have over 200 groups and individuals on this list and over 900 fans on our FaceBook page. Please invite your friends, family, colleagues, and organizations to join us!

There are only about 40 days until the end of the legislative session, so we need to move into high gear to achieve a fair funding formula!

Here are 3 things you can do:

1. Save the date for Ready's ADVOCACY DAY, Tuesday, May 11, 12 noon - 4:00 pm, at the State House.
We'll have a press conference, legislative briefings, advocacy trainings, meetings with legislators, and more! Details coming soon. Please announce this date and spread the word to your members and networks.

2. Contact your State Representative and State Senator today!
Give them this simple message: "My community and the state of Rhode Island urgently needs a fair education funding formula and I would like to meet with you on May 11 at the State House to discuss how we can get this done." Find your legislator and their contact information here: http://www.rilin.state.ri.us/index.html

3. Participate in Ready's Statewide Speaking Tour by hosting an event in your community. Contact Karina to schedule a date and a speaker.

The Ready Tour kicks off with a Cumberland Community Forum, Monday, April 26, 7:00 pm, Cumberland Public Library, 1464 Diamond Hill Rd, Cumberland. Speakers include Karina Wood, Co-Organizer of RI is Ready, and Cumberland Mayor Daniel McKee. Participation from Woonsocket and Lincoln leaders also anticipated.

Best Regards,

Karina Wood & Maryellen Butke

Just to be clear: RI is Ready is not an uncritical supporter of the current RIDE formula. You can see a list of their suggested improvements on their Facebook Notes page, and principles for a fair formula on this page.
