Central Falls: BoR video shows union support irrelevant

According to video posted by the Providence Journal of last Thursday's RI Board of Regents meeting, the decision to fire all teachers in Central Falls proceeded despite indications of support from the union for the original package of changes. During the 8-minute clip, at least one of the nine-member Board, Colleen Callahan, questioned Commissioner Deborah Gist on the decision to proceed with the mass firings despite indications that the union had communicated their support for proposed changes at the troubled school.

"And the teachers union informed you and the Superintendent, in writing, by her deadline, that they would accept the transformation model," says a voice which sounds like Callahan, off camera.

"Whether they accept the model is not...the Superintendent has the authority and the responsibility to choose the model," says Gist.

Just so we're clear.
