PUC update: Portsmouth studio off the block
By John McDaid | Tuesday, 3 November 2009
Sen. Chuck Levesque responded immediately to my e-mail about proposed PUC cable access regulation changes, and followed up with the RI Senate Policy office, passing along this response a few minutes ago from Director Marie Ganim:
"There was such a strong adverse reaction to the proposed closure of the Portsmouth site," Ganim said in an e-mail, "That the Portsmouth/Bristol consolidation plan has been abandoned. We have this assurance from both the RIPBS and DPUC."
Thanks to Sen. Levesque for the quick followup, and I continue to urge our delegation to push the PUC in the direction of easier citizen input.

Abandoned but allowed by new rules
It should be noted that the new proposed PEG Rules eliminate the "requirement" for a studio in Newport County. That means they can eliminate it in the future under the new rules. The current rules "prevent" them from eliminating it.
