Reminder: Town Council votes budget tomorrow

Tomorrow night, the Portsmouth Town Council will meet with the School Committee and hopefully approve a provisional budget, and the big question still up in the air is whether funding will be there to keep the Prudence Island school open.

If you are able to get to Town Hall tomorrow night, support for the schools — not just Prudence — is needed. At each meeting, there have been suggestions made about cuts, and people have gotten to the podium to attack the cost of the system, ignoring as "influenced" the Berkshire Report which showed the schools operating efficiently.

The Council seems to be generally reasonable (with one notable exception, and if you read Mark Katzman's letter to the editor in today's Newport Daily News, you'll know who I mean) but parents and friends of the schools need to show up and encourage them.

Please, if you have the time, hope to see you there.
