Jack holds Lemon the Duck at the Portsmouth Library.

Author and teacher Laura Backman brought her famous duck, Lemon, to the Portsmouth Free Public Library this afternoon to the delight of a dozen kids and their parents. Lemon, a crested Pekin, was born in Portsmouth's Hathaway School with a neurological impairment, unable to walk. In her book, Lemon the Duck, Backman tells the story of how she and the students cared for her (with some lessons about accepting others who are differently abled.)
