Snacks and Ladders September 30 at Portsmouth Fire station

On Sunday, September 30, from 12-2pm, the Portsmouth Fire Department will open their doors and invite the community to visit the station, check out their cool equipment, and enjoy light refreshments, according to a release. Families (and kids of all ages!) can take a tour of the station and view the firefighting apparatus, which includes two brand-new pump trucks, a 95-foot tower ladder, three ambulances, and two boats!

Children can look through the trucks and have an opportunity to use a real fire hose. Portsmouth's bravest will be on hand to answer questions about the day-to-day operations of the department and how they respond to emergency calls. There will be fire-safety coloring books for kids, and fire prevention education for all.

Visitors can also take a tour of the Town’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) (as seen in this post from their recent "Hurricane Exie" exercise) upstairs at the station. Portsmouth EMA Director John King will be on hand to answer questions about the EOC and how it functions during a large scale emergency such as a hurricane.

The event is free, and light refreshment will be provided. So stop by the Portsmouth public safety complex at 2300 East Main Road for a fun afternoon!
