Occupy Providence votes to devolve food preparation

Food working group members make proposal to GA.

The Occupy Providence General Assembly (GA) voted this afternoon to stop operating the food tent where volunteeers had been preparing three meals each day and distribute any already contributed food directly to the round-the-clock occupiers.

The vote passed the GA by an overwhelming majority, after a presentation from the Food Working Group that made clear the current situation was unsustainable due to many person-hours required to staff the function. As one speaker put it, "Some of our most committed activists are not able to attend the GA."

Discussion on the proposal included thanks to everyone who has donated food over the past month, and the preparation of a note alerting potential donors and providing suggestions about the best process going forward. As always, anyone with questions or concerns was invited to participate in the working group.
