Rep. Gordon draws small (9) but rabid crowd at statehouse rally
Hey King Linc, Sheriff Gordon's a comin' for you. |
At yesterday's anti-Chafee rally, the 9 supporters of Rep. Dan Gordon (R-71) had to share the Capital steps with a photo shoot for a wedding party wearing "Phantom of the Opera" masks.
Rep. Gordon's half-hour rant focused on attacking Gov. Chafee for his "intolerable act" of subverting the legislature on tuition for undocumented immigrant kids. "He's committed felony after felony," yelled one attendee. I believe he was talking about the Governor.
At one point, Gordon veered off-topic to rail about government waste, waving his General Assembly ID badge (see video) as evidence.
Said Gordon: "We don't have, as state representatives and senators, to the best of my knowledge, any use for this whatsoever."
While I may agree with the representative in this specific case, I would like to point out that such badges allow public officials access to otherwise restricted areas, such as crossing police lines at a flood area to assess the situation and make sure your constituents are okay.
Like, say, your constituents in Portsmouth Park during Irene?
One of the attendees offered a suggestion. "You should have showed that to the cops."
